There couldn’t have been a better day for it as our Technologists, Designers and Creatives took to the rooftop balcony to kick off the WCRS Hack Day.
While we are all furiously dedicated to helping our clients, it’s also crucial we look at ways to improve our own way of working. With that in mind, seven teams spent seven hours yesterday coming up with ideas and prototypes against the brief “Tools and Apps for agency living”.
After a briefing at midday the agency was eerily quiet and, to be honest, I wondered if we’d lost everyone to the pub for the afternoon. But after an hour or so the studio and creative area began to fill up and there was furious activity as teams developed their ideas. I’ve never seen so much traffic between the two departments!
At 7pm we reassembled in The Arena around pizza and beer and judged the afternoon’s work.
It was a fantastic session, both amusing and inspiring in equal measure. Apps related to the toilets were a common theme but there was also a beautifully executed prototype for a concierge iPhone App for late night working, which tied into the Just Eat API and allowed you to order after hours food, as well as book taxis, build up points for your overtime efforts and receive encouragement from Simon Peck on your iPhone!
In second place came our amusingly executed virtual office dog, pipped to the winning post by ‘WIP’, a kind of cross between Timeline and Posterous for agency projects. Not only was it a great idea but the prototype was amazingly advanced and the team even managed to take a photo of the audience and add it to the timeline during the demo.
Huge congratulations go to the team behind the winning idea, David Gordon, Jason Fingland, Tom Young, Jane Briers and Luke Springate. Nice work people!
Now to get those top two ideas into production. Watch this space.
