Whiplash has already been nominated for 5 BAFTAs. The film follows 19 year old Andrew Neyman, a talented drummer who is chosen by conductor Terence Fletcher to be in his band. Fletcher will stop at nothing to bring his talent to an incredible standard. Before long, Andrew has become as single-minded as his conductor, growing increasingly distant from his family and girlfriend to focus exclusively on his music. Whiplash is in Cinemas now.
A comprehensive survey celebrating Pop Art’s legacy from the early 70s. The show has three curators: one each from the West, Russia and China. It doesn’t set out to be a competition between the three. It actually, to a degree becomes one zone of interest. Other than the work of Weiwei and a few others, much of the non-Western exhibits here remains largely unknown in London – demonstrating that when Warhol said “pop art is for everyone” in 1966, he wasn’t wrong. Post Pop: East Meets West is at the Saatchi Gallery until February 23rd.
