Friday the 13th is normally synonymous with horror, bad luck and generally negative sentiment. However, Friday 13th 2015 brought laughter, a huge quantity of silly visages and above all renewed hope for millions of deserving people across the world as Comic Relief challenged the UK to make their faces funny for money on Red Nose Day.

Like lots of other agencies across London, we at WCRS wanted to get involved in a way that would live up to the creative concept, but also demonstrate our digital nous. And thus the Funny Face Generator* was born.

The idea came to life as a web app that applied a javascript-based facial tracking and morphing library that locates the user’s face in a feed from their webcam, and then distorted it using WebGL. The aim was to spread these images socially and get our peers to join in with the Red Nose Day festivities. As you can see from the images below, the effects were quite brilliant!
