From just a few hours in on my first day at WCRS Big Break, it was clear that I was embarking on an advertising internship like no other.
Why? It was one which integrated you into the agency as a valued member of an account. One that went the extra mile to welcome you and make you feel comfortable and ready to learn as much as you physically could about everyday life in the Advertising Industry in three months.
I was thrown into the action straight away in my first week. Following the plentiful welcome drinks, my debut in the weekly WCRS 6-a-side football team, inductions by my new colleagues on the NOW TV and Bupa accounts, I somehow found myself in client meetings just three days in. A baptism of fire, maybe – but a damn exciting one at that.
But that was just the start of the fun. In late August, I was asked to put the Spanish I learnt at university to good use in helping out on a strategic research project in Madrid.
And before you ask, it wasn’t just Madrid’s stellar tapas scene we researched. I was also lucky enough to experience first-hand the fascinating role that interviews and qualitative process can play in the creation of great ads.
It was these sorts of experiences that enlightened me to why the ad industry is the one for me. Each day, you are faced with completely different tasks and challenges in a fascinating hub of creative and interesting people.
WCRS gives us great and varied responsibilities regardless of our level. And waking up each day excited about genuinely not knowing what the day has in store for you is awesome.
I was pleased to accept an Account Executive role towards of the end of my Big Break and, having learnt so much over the three months, I am now loving every minute in my new role at WCRS.
